Questions for September 30, 2012

Scripture:  Mark 9:38-50

1.      All churches go through changes at one point or another.  What makes change so difficult for the church as compared to other organizations?

2.      Pastor Blair used this phrase in his weekly e-mail: “Change is inevitable, growth is optional”.  How has Living Word grown through the changes she has experienced in your recent memory?  How will that help or hinder the way Living Word handles change in the days to come?

3.      Why do you think the disciples were so resistant to others doing ministry in Jesus name? (MK 9:38)  Are there ways in which the church discourages people to do ministry today?  How?  Why?

4.      When Jesus said things like, “If your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off…” (MK 9:45) we believe he was speaking hyperbolically.  How do we decide when Jesus is using hyperbole and when he is speaking literally?  How can we be sure?

5.      How is Living Word “salty” (MK 9:50)?  Is Living Word doing all she can to “be at peace with one another?”  What more could we do?
